History of the Martinsville Checkered Pig
Tommy Houston began his journey in the catering business, serving his wonderful meats and sides for special events and at the Martinsville Speedway.
As the catering business boomed, the idea of opening a restaurant took shape, and in April 1997, Tommy and Lisa opened their first restaurant, Pigs R Us, in Martinsville, Virginia. The restuarant has continued to grow and expand, requiring several additions, and remodeling of the building to accomodate the increased business.
The Martinsville location continues to be a favorite of the local folks in the city, in all of Henry county, and the surrounding areas. It will officially become "Checkered Pig Bar-B-Q and Ribs" in 2011, but will always affectionately be known as Pigs R Us to the local customers, who have enjoyed it for so long.
